Overview
The iconic for this progressive dance label was loosely based around the tone arm from the Mk 5’s we had downstairs in the lounge. The original use for the iconic was on the A-side of the vinyl releases, so we saw the logo as something that would be constantly rotating, bringing the elements of the tone arm and the ‘C’ together. This gave us a freedom to think about the logo as something that didn’t require its own space to breathe, and was never going to be set to the top left of anything. The iconic worked very well on the vinyl but it never felt right with text near it, so it made sense to use the iconic as more of a supporting element to the text instead of with the text.
Tessellated in metallic gold ink on a warm black the iconic evolved into a pattern, a repeating brand mark and became completely independent of any text at all. The iconic is used with upper case CP Company type and a cut, striped white vector. The releases use a strong focus colour; cyan, magenta, yellow green in contrast with the sleeves, which were common to every release, and creates an instantly recognisable item in a stack of records.
